Springwater Township Mayor Bill French has been charged with 10 counts of violating the Municipal Elections Act, related to campaign spending in 2014.
Court documents obtained by Simcoe.com show the township’s outgoing mayor, who was defeated by 82 votes in last month’s municipal election by Don Allen, has been summoned to appear in an Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie Nov. 2, related to improperly-filed 2014 election expenses.
French called the charges “minor in nature” and labelled the joint Springwater-Oro Medonte compliance audit committee that is prosecuting the case a “witch hunt.”
