Penetanguishene mayor floats idea for shared library CEO

NORTH SIMCOE – A local politician is floating the idea of Midland and Penetanguishene sharing a library CEO in light of the former’s chief librarian retiring.
“Can one library CEO manage two branches? Are there financial and other advantages … we should take?” wrote Penetanguishene Mayor Gerry Marshall in an email. “A library CEO managing multiple branches is not new and happens all across Ontario and with positive results.”
Marshall indicated Penetanguishene already works with neighbouring municipalities for a variety of services, including a shared fire chief and chief building official with Midland, and a shared regional tourism officer for all north Simcoe.
“We keep our eyes open across all municipalities. I believe every vacancy should be explored as an opportunity,” he noted.
