Innisfil Mayor Barb Baguley is running for a second term of office

Baguley filed her nomination papers on Wednesday for the position of mayor in the upcoming municipal election.

“It has truly been a pleasure and honour to serve the citizens of Innisfil as their mayor for the past four years,” she said. “I am eager to continue leading the positive change that is making Innisfil a better place for residents, businesses and visitors.”

Baguley — who has served on council for a total of 22 years as ward councillor, deputy mayor and mayor — said her leadership, council and town hall have become more accessible for residents.

“I believe an informed community is a strong community and I do everything I can to share information and ask for input from our residents,” she said. “Our town hall is definitely a people place now and it’s very exciting to see the level of participation and interest by the community. “

She has supported bold new ideas including Permit Palooza, the Farmers Market and ‘Coffee with Council’, another opportunity to hear ideas and concerns from residents.

Baguley said highlights of the past four years include:

– Implementing Code of Conduct for Council

– the Mayor’s Golf Tournament (revitalized) and a new gala to fund Community Assistance Grants

– Civic Cenotaph at Town Hall

– Resurfacing of County Road 27 and Highway 89 in Cookstown (spring 2014)

– Administrative structure re-organized, resulting in a $160,000 cost savings

– Two new doctors at Stroud Medical Clinic

– Reducing police budget

– Family Fun Day

– Two new cell towers to improve cell service: one in Alcona and one at Fennels Corners.

Baguley is the only candidate for mayor thus far. Counc. Lynn Dollin is the only candidate for deputy mayor at this time.
