Kramp, Marshall make top 10 list
Midland’s Deputy mayor topped the list and Penetanguishene’s mayor was ranked number 4 in the Midland Mirror’s newsmakers’ list
1 – Stephan Kramp Whether supporting a doomed push to reduce Midland council to seven members from nine, backing a successful motion to explore OPP coverage for the town, or advocating for economic-development funds from the County of Simcoe, the deputy mayor was never at a loss for words on key local issues.
But Kramp jumps to the top of this list due to an ongoing Ontario Civilian Police Commission investigation of comments he made at a budget meeting. He continues to remain absent from the Midland Police Services Board pending the outcome of that probe.
4 – Gerry Marshall The only politician returning from the 2012 newsmakers list, the Penetanguishene mayor was his usual vocal self in 2013.
Marshall spoke forcefully on such issues as the economic impact of falling Georgian Bay water levels, the threatened closure of Penetanguishene Secondary School, the high cost of municipal policing, and the announced shutdown of manufacturer CCL.
Marshall also took an ultimately unsuccessful run at provincial politics, putting his name forward as a potential NDP candidate for Simcoe North.
