Passionate and impatient: Wasaga Beach climate action team head urges council to consult public on climate change

The head of Wasaga Beach’s climate action team came in to smooth the waters after a recommendation for the town to create an advisory committee on climate change created a controversy.

Kathleen Caswell said she took full responsibility for “any part we may have played in creating negativity between the Wasaga Beach Climate Action Team and council members.

“We truly believe the only way we can combat this existential problem is by working together,” she said. “We cannot work together if we are antagonistic toward each other.”

The week previous, council’s co-ordinated committee faced duelling motions to create a climate change advisory committee.

One, from Coun. Joe Belanger, claimed the town was “lagging well behind in addressing these serious environmental concerns, versus neighbouring municipalities.
