Cody Oschefski enters bid to become Midland’s deputy mayor

A ‘Midland lifer’ is looking to delve deeper into local politics.

Cody Oschefski recently entered his candidacy for deputy mayor of Midland in the 2022 municipal election, to be held on October 24. (Recently, current Deputy Mayor Mike Ross announced he would retire from the position at the end of the term.)

“I feel after two terms of council I am ready to take the leap,” said Oschefski. “It is incredibly important to me to help make this town as prosperous, as safe, and as tuned to my one-year-old daughter as it is to my 60-plus-year-old parents who both reside in Midland.”

Oschefski’s familiarity to residents may come as a result of his strong presence in social media where he is responsive in addressing concerns by townsfolk able to engage through those platforms.

“I am a Midland lifer. It is my goal in life to help put Midland on the map while driving great opportunities for our youth, small business, entrepreneurs, artists and anyone who wants to be anyone when they grow up.”

The impact of COVID-19 on the tourism community of Midland will be a topic of discussion for many years to come, and Oschefski is ready to host that conversation.

“Bouncing back from the pandemic, it is incredibly important that we not only pick up where we left off in terms of tourism, but to stand out even more than ever. Midland has a reputation as a fun, safe and welcoming community for tourists.

“We need to follow through for the tourists, and even more so for our residents.

“We need to reestablish and strengthen the great partnerships we have had with the BIA, Rotary, Lions, We Are the Villagers, Y’s Mens… the list goes on. We are all starting over in a sense, all working on great things, and I feel this is the best time to reinvigorate these relationships and find synergies.

“We are a beautiful little town – it is important to me to keep that feeling as we grow. Having my foot in the door at county will help me get involved in the bigger picture affordable housing conversation, and I am committed to keep pushing forward for our town,” he affirmed.

Oschefski vows to push hard in the election right up until the final ballots are cast. He also thanked his employer and his union for supporting his bid, and current Deputy Mayor Mike Ross for endorsement upon vacating the seat at the end of this term.
