‘We have to protect this’: Tiny Township ‘waterkeepers’ taking gravel pit concerns to Ontario legislature

Residents have been regularly gathering in front of the Teedon Pit gates to peacefully protest the proposed expansion. Locals are worried about the impact the expansion will have on the ground water quality.

Residents are not giving up in the fight to protect the pristine waters of Tiny Township.

A group of locals, which call themselves ‘the waterkeepers,’ have organized a rally at Queen’s Park on March 22 — World Water Day — and they plan to make some noise.

“We have been sending countless letters to our premier, to our MPP, to different ministries … we just need to somehow make them understand the situation,” said group member Donna Denault.

For the past five years, residents have been making a stink about the Teedon Pit, 90 Darby Road, in Tiny Township.

The Alliston aquifer, which runs under the pit, is highly regarded by scientists.
