Sunday March 20, 2022: World Water Day Zoom meeting
From St. John’s United Church.
In anticipation of a World Water Day Rally organized by FOTTSA at Queen’s Park on March 22, Rev. Meg Jordan of St. John’s United Church, Elmvale, will be helping to lead a Zoom information meeting along with fellow members of the United Church of Canada in North Simcoe on Sunday evening of March 20th at 7 pm.
We are trying to raise awareness about the threat that lies at our own doorstep and why citizens must become informed and speak out. A legal battle is being fought in Ontario courts right now and while there are hundreds of individual activists in our area loosely gathered under the umbrella of Friends of the Waverley Uplands, the only organization considered a valid “party” by the courts to oppose what the aggregate companies are doing with permission of the Ontario government is FOTTSA (Federation of Tiny Township Shoreline Associations) because they are incorporated. The site of this struggle is being called Site 42 because it is really a continuation of the struggle called Site 41. That struggle was against a municipal government that is beholden to the taxpaying, voting public. This current struggle is against big businesses – an entirely different matter! One of these, CRH, is an international corporation with headquarters in Dublin, Ireland. It is, shall we say, complicated!!
Please join us if you can. Our guest speakers are Site 41 veterans — settler/farmer Anne Nahuis and local indigenous leader Vicki Monague. For more info go to: https://northsimcoeruralcluster.ca/sunday-march-20th-meeting-on-save-our-water/
