Police continued to crack down on protesters for allegedly blockading the Site 41 landfill this week, bringing to 10 the number of people charged with mischief so far.

The arrests came a week after Ontario Superior Court Justice Peter Lauwers extended an injunction prohibiting protesters from stopping construction of the County of Simcoe dump.

“The OPP has taken our investigation very, very seriously, and we are in the process of following through on the court-imposed injunction,” said Const. Peter Leon, Southern Georgian Bay OPP media spokesperson. “In doing so, the OPP is continuing to deal with this matter in a very professional way.”

On Aug. 7, police moved in and stood watch as County of Simcoe employees removed the blockade that has barred access to the dumpsite for the past five weeks. No protesters attempt to impede the operation.

Earlier in the day, Anishenabe Kwei protest leader Vicki Monague turned herself in at the Highway 12 detachment.
