On November 22, Ontario’s Auditor General released the Annual Report of Environmental Audits, and unsurprisingly, Doug Ford got an ‘F’ on his report card.

The damning report said that for the third year in a row the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (Environment Ministry), has not provided leadership on protecting and restoring the environment.

Not only has Ford failed to protect the environment, he’s actually making the situation worse.

We’re in a climate crisis, but Doug Ford doesn’t care.

The Auditor General’s report lays bare the all-out assault Doug Ford has perpetrated against the environment. Among the findings, are:

  • A dramatic increase in the number of Ministerial Zoning Orders issued since the beginning of 2020 — orders that are exempt from environmental protections.
  • An increase in the number of endangered species, with the total number of at-risk species rising by 22%.
  • Thousands of hazardous spills are released into the air, water and land every year — more than 8,100 on average, per year since 2011.

Tell Ford to adopt a carbon budget and stop wreaking environmental havoc

This has to stop. The report found hazardous spills go largely unchecked by the Environment Ministry, which does very little to reduce their occurrence, polluting the air we breathe, the water we drink and the precious farmlands where we grow our food.

Ontario Greens Leader, Mike Schreiner, recently tabled a carbon budget for Ontario that would hold the government accountable and lead our province into a cleaner, greener, future.

But Doug Ford and his cronies rejected that plan, in favour of more development, more environmental damage and less accountability.

We’re calling on Ford to stop assaulting the environment and start showing some real leadership.

Add your voice and tell Ford to stop spewing garbage and adopt a carbon budget.
