Municipal Comprehensive Review Public Information Sessions October 5

This October, the County and its MCR consultants will be hosting public information sessions on the following technical components of the County’s Municipal Comprehensive Review (MCR):

  • Growth Management and the Land Needs Assessment,
  • Provincial Natural Heritage System Mapping Refinement,
  • Provincial Agricultural System Mapping Refinement,
  • Climate Change, and
  • Watershed Management

The County is undertaking a Municipal Comprehensive Review (MCR) in accordance with the Provincial Growth Plan, A Place to Grow: Growth plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe. The MCR is a specific planning process used to bring an upper- or single-tier municipality Official Plan (OP) into conformity with the Growth Plan. It establishes the overall pattern of development and land resource management in the County and sets the stage for more detailed local planning. The MCR will apply to the 16 Local Area Municipalities in the County, and excludes the Cities of Barrie and Orillia, both of which are separated Cities.

Land Needs Assessment and Growth Management
A key component of the work being undertaken is a Land Needs Assessment to determine how much growth can be accommodated in the existing settlement areas and whether additional land is needed for residential and employment area purposes to the 2051 planning horizon. Two public presentations are planned:

Tuesday, October 5, 2021
1:30 – 3:00 pm
4:00 – 5:30 pm

Please register once per household or organization through Eventbrite (https://simcoemcroct5.eventbrite.ca) for the session that best suits your schedule. Both sessions will be hosted using Zoom and will include the same presentation by Hemson Consulting. Following this presentation there will be an opportunity to ask questions of clarification or make comments. Materials related to these sessions will be posted to the County’s MCR project webpage (www.simcoe.ca/dpt/pln/mcr) on Friday, October 1, 2021. A link to the Zoom meeting you have registered for will be sent the day before the session.

Technical Study Sessions
The MCR also includes a review of provincial policies and plans on the following matters. The product of the review will be the preparation of topic-specific technical reports and recommendations to address:

  • refinements to the provincial Natural Heritage System mapping;
  • refinements to the provincial Agricultural System mapping;
  • climate change; and
  • watershed management.

At this time, topic-specific public information sessions are planned on Monday, October 18 and Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at various times.

Please register once per household or organization through Eventbrite (https://simcoemcroct18-19.eventbrite.ca) for the topic, date and time that best suits your schedule. Both sessions for each topic will be hosted using Zoom and will include the same presentation by the applicable MCR technical consultant. Following the presentation there will be an opportunity to ask questions of clarification or make comments. Materials related to each of the technical information sessions will be posted to the County’s MCR project webpage (www.simcoe.ca/dpt/pln/mcr) on Thursday, October 14, 2021. A link to the Zoom meeting you have registered for will be sent the day before the session.

All of the public MCR information sessions to be held on October 5th, 18th and 19th, 2021 will be recorded and posted to the County’s MCR project webpage, therefore publicly available. By participating in these information sessions you are acknowledging the public nature of these sessions and the collection, use and disclosure of your image and opinions.
