Quarry Aware continues public campaign

A group fighting the closure of County Road 91 says there is “widespread opposition” to a plan to close the road and upgrade an existing summer road to year-round use.

Quarry Aware is basing its claim on a recent access to information filing to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) for public comments made in response to Clearview Township’s application to amend the Niagara Escarpment Plan (NEP) to allow road improvements to the 26/27 Sideroad.

That application, along with an application for a development permit for road work, is currently in the hands of an Environmental Review Tribunal (ERT).

The ERT is holding a pre-hearing conference later in February on Clearview’s challenge to the Niagara Escarpment Commission’s decision in 2015 to deny the permit application. In October, it sent the township’s application for an NEP amendment to the tribunal to be included in the hearing.

Most of the comments contained in the 124 pages of records obtained from MNRF were opposed to the plan, the group says.
