Barry Norris — Tay Ward 3

I am Barry Norris, a resident of Tay Township since 1978, and I’m seeking your support for the councillor position for Ward 3.

My municipal experience dates back to the 1980s when I was appointed by council to the Waubaushene recreation committee for three years. I was elected by all the residents of Tay for two terms prior to amalgamation, then elected in Ward 3 after. During my nine-year tenure as councillor, I served as the chair of recreation, protection to persons and property, public works and roads, and a member on general government. I also sat on the library board for eight years and the Coldwater Community Centre board for three years along with other assigned special committees during the terms of office.

Along with my municipal experience, I was involved with the Coldwater Minor Hockey Association executive and served as president for nine years. I was one of the founding directors of the Waubaushene Minor Baseball Association and served as a director for over five years. I loved coaching kids in both hockey and baseball.

My work experience has varied over the years: part owner/operator of a landscape business in Mississauga, a production supervisor for Ford Motor Co. in Oakville, owner/operator of Duck Bay Camp, department head of grounds for the Mental Health Centre in Penetanguishene, an equipment operator for a private sub-contractor for Bell Canada in Northern Ontario, and assistant manager for the Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries in Toronto where I officially retired from in 2008.

Being semi-retired, I have the time to devote my services to the township and its residents. My past municipal and managerial experience will be an asset for the efficient operation of the township and to further evaluate our road system and Official Plan. I look forward to having the opportunity to represent the residents of Ward 3 and all residents of Tay Township.
