Ward 3 candidate Lou Mosna said he’s not happy with the representation he’s currently getting from town council, so he was inspired to seek office.
“What I can offer is honesty, integrity and hard work,” he said.
He raised several concerns with current and planned town projects.
One of those is the planned southwest arterial road. The original route for the road did not include 10th Sideroad and now does, which raises concerns about driveways and well contamination for residents on that road, he said.
He also noted the construction on Dissette Street is a great disruption for people in town and is over budget.
“This road is not really for residents of Bradford,” he said of the Dissette project, noting the street is used by people from out of town to bypass the town.
“The taxpayers of Bradford are picking up the tab.”
The location of the new employment lands to be developed around the intersection of Hwy. 400 and County Road 88 is also a concern, Mr. Mosna said.
“It bothers me that they’re building industrial properties basically a ridge away from the Holland Marsh,” he said.
“A small accident could have huge environmental effects for the Holland Marsh.”
Mr. Mosna questioned whether the development would bring many new jobs. One of the proposed tenants, Toromont Industries, would be relocating from around the intersection of highways 400 and 7, meaning most of the employees will probably remain the same, he said.
“I’m not against progress by any means,” Mr. Mosna said, noting he wants to see controlled growth and fiscal responsibility.
Mr. Mosna has a bachelor of arts degree in communications from the University of Windsor.
He works as a licensed paralegal and consultant.
He began his career as an assessor with the Ministry of Revenue, then worked for Woolco and Walmart, helping to bring Walmart to Canada as a manager of property assessment and taxation.
As a consultant, he now frequently represents municipalities at the Assessment Review Board.
He and his wife, Sharon, moved to Bradford West Gwillimbury two years ago and plan to retire here.
