News release from Leo Losereit: Losereit launches full platform for Adjala-Tosorontio: Need Progressive Change
“I believe my vision of ‘our goals’ should lead our county and municipality in community retention, development and environmental programs – both urban and rural. With this vision we will be milestones ahead of our current tired direction. As a municipality, we have achieved many great things within our community and with our volunteers – but, we cannot rest on our laurels. It takes political will, foresight and determination to advance the new generation. I offer my leadership to take us there – more importantly I offer a refreshing progressive change.”
The platform, as outlined on the website, www.leo4mayor.ca, is divided into four categories: Accountability, Environment, Recreational Planning and Land Use Planning.

The platform includes:

• A considerable value for services review and fix – at both the local and county level.

• ensuring council meetings are more open to members of the public and ensuring the public has the same information as councillors during a meeting. The public should be afforded an opportunity to speak to anything on the agenda. Also, the pursuit of a rewards program for volunteers to encourage volunteerism.

• While building on top of our successful recycling program, we should work hard on promotion and implementation of our very successful “Diversion Days” in the remaining 15 municipalities in Simcoe County while pursuing partnerships with other municipalities for other methods of waste disposal like, Thermal Conversion Process, ‘Gasification’ or otherwise known as “Incineration/Co-generation”.

• While encouraging alternative energy sources in future developments we should also pursue alternative water saving devices such as rain cisterns to supply toilets and gardens.

• Equally important to build with a proper recreational plan that includes outdoor rinks and things that children and parents have been requesting. We should also look for possible libraries within the municipality.

“One of the biggest ‘refreshing changes’ from this platform will be our final method of waste disposal. Gasification of waste is completely different from incineration. The newest technology burns or gasifies our waste to literally nothing. The gases from the stack can amount to as little as one car would emit in one year – It’s very little. It’s similar in process to using your cooking stove during a ‘self clean’ cycle,” said Losereit.

In addition to the platform Losereit wishes to bring respect to the table, “above all of this, we need to bring respect and dignity back into politics. As an example, what happened to the people involved with Site 41 was an embarrassment. To this day the County has been vindictive by not releasing charges laid to a local dairy farmer, Anne Nahuis, which is shameful considering Site 41 has been quashed. Our residents deserve better,” said Losereit.

Here’s the complete platform:
Accountability

– Value for Services Review & Fix – both local and county level
– Ensure council members are respected professionally and informed of all issues
– Implement policy giving the public what councillors receive at meetings (agenda items, etc)
– Public updates on local & county issues – Ensure tax dollars are invested consistently & wisely – not spent frivolously
– Allow residents time to bring issues to council and openly discuss agenda items
– Pursue a reward program for volunteers to promote further volunteerism
– Update and regular review of our fire department
– Ensure a greater role in community policing
 Environment
– Real Waste Management Choice
– Galvanizing a greater role in diversion, recycling and composting – we must educate and further educate the benefits
– Promotion and implementation of our very successful “Diversion Days” in the remaining 15 municipalities in Simcoe County
– Pursue partnerships with other municipalities for other methods of waste disposal
– Pursue other comprehensive methods of disposal, like, Thermal Conversion Process, ‘Gasification’ or otherwise known as “Incineration/Co-generation”
– Encourage energy alternatives like Solar, Wind and Water
– Encourage partnerships, investments in Solar and Geothermal systems in new housing developments
 Recreation
– Review and Renew my commitment to a proper recreational plan
– Build on a vision for green recreational and passive recreational opportunities
– Investigate plans for libraries within the municipality (Loretto & Everett)
– Listen to resident kids and parents as to what are their needs and desires
 Planning
– Ensure water protection and quantity as the foremost obligation in all planning
– Ensure proper land use designations for a green vision and green energy
– Pursue alternative water saving devices such as rain cisterns to supply toilets
– Ensure a fraction of affordable housing is part of every development
– Ensure proper support for business development within hamlets
