NEW TECUMSETH – Christine Brayford is turning up the heat for this year’s municipal election campaign as the Alliston councillor has decided to run for deputy mayor.
Brayford filed her nomination papers for the upcoming municipal elections in January for the Ward 3 central Alliston councillor spot. Yesterday (Monday), however, she changed her nomination to enter the race for deputy mayor.
Switching her nomination pits her against incumbent deputy mayor Rick Milne and Rolling Acres campground owner Douglas Weatherall.
Brayford said she’s been thinking about the running for deputy mayor for some time. While she’s nervous about running for the higher job, she said she’s at a stage in her life where she’s more nervous about regretting not trying for it.
“I’ve always been involved in the community and want to make sure the town is something we can be very proud of,” she said.
The deputy mayor position means attending Simcoe County council meetings as well as the regular municipal meetings. If elected, Brayford said she would be committed to the position full time.
“I absolutely have the time to do it,” she said.
