A sign at the site in Goldboro, N.S., of a proposed $13-billion liquefied natural gas plant. The company behind the project, Pieridae, has set June 30 as its deadline for whether to move forward.

Following pressure from thousands of people, the Trudeau government has not given in to Pieridae Energy’s demand for one billion dollars of public money to fund its Goldboro LNG project. [1]

As a result, the company failed to obtain financing before June 30, the deadline it had set! So this weekend Pieridae announced that Goldboro LNG will therefore not be able to move forward according to the schedule. This is an important victory!

Pieridae Energy lobbied the federal government intensively to invest in Goldboro LNG, a polluting mega plant to liquefy and export fossil gas from Nova Scotia.

The company was depending on public money to move forward. Now it might never see the light of day.

This victory was possible thanks to YOU! Let’s celebrate people power!

This is one of many decisions to cancel polluting pipelines, like Keystone XL and Energy East pipelines. [2] [3] Let’s keep the dominoes falling.

Despite this important victory, we will remain vigilant to ensure that Pieridae never builds another LNG plant.

Together we can make sure that no other fossil fuel projects are built. The time has come for us to focus on meaningful projects that will deliver a just and green transition for workers and affected communities.

If you want to help block another fossil fuel megaproject, you can send a message to the Quebec government to voice your opposition to the GNL Quebec project. Already added your name?
