Are ‘monster homes’ threatening neighbourhoods? One Collingwood councillor thinks so
by Ian Adams Collingwood Connection
A Collingwood councillor wants to see stricter rules when it comes to having big homes replace smaller ones.
Coun. Yvonne Hamlin, following a concern about an infill project presented to council’s development and operations committee, suggested the perception is there are few regulations when it comes to infill residential homes.
“I get questions all the time from residents about lack of rules,” she told the committee during its Jan. 13 meeting.
While Hamlin’s request to have planning staff return with an idea of timing for such a review was deferred to another day, other committee members echoed her concerns.
Coun. Kathy Jeffery, the chair of the committee, suggested it may require neighbourhood-specific urban design review policies.
