Wasaga Beach’s mayor is on the defensive after allegations that one of the potential locations for a casino could put her in a conflict of interest.
Mayor Nina Bifolchi opened council’s Jan. 22 meeting of the committee of the whole with a “transparency disclosure,” addressing comments that a property owned by her parents’ company was close to a property off Highway 26 that’s been identified as one of five locations in town for Gateway Casino & Entertainment’s gaming facility.
She said she had spoken with the town’s integrity commissioner on Friday about the issue and was told she did not have a conflict. On Monday, she was informed a formal complaint had been filed, but as of Tuesday, she did not yet know the substance of the complaint.
