Natalie Harris — Barrie Ward 9 Candidate
Dear Barrie citizens,
I hope to be elected to serve Ward 6 as its councillor and to be your experienced advocate for the City of Barrie.
I am a mom of two children (ages 22 and 12) who have both grown up in the city of Barrie. As an advanced-care paramedic, I have served this community and saved lives for over 11 years. I was an educator at Georgian College for nine years, and am a proud mental health advocate. I have travelled across Canada to share my story of recovery from PTSD and the importance of peer support, and as a proud community member, I have contributed countless volunteer hours to help raise mental health awareness. In 2018, I raised over $12,000 for the RVH Youth and Child Mental Health Department and the IveGotYourBack911 first-responder campaign. I also founded Wings of Change Peer Support, in 2016, which provides solution-based peer discussion for first responders, health-care providers, correction workers and other community heroes; this is the first of this type of peer support in Barrie. I am also proud to have had a voice in the successful implementation of Ontario’s PTSD bill, Bill 163, and Canada’s PTSD bill, C-211.
• I am honoured to have received the John Graves Simcoe Medal of Honour.
• Named one of the Leading Women in 2017;
• Received the Tema Conter Memorial Resiliency Award in 2017;
• Awarded the One Woman Fearless Woman Award in 2018;
• Nominated for the Ontario Premier’s Award in Health Sciences in 2018 (winner TBA).
