Love trees? Want to make sure our forests are protected and resilient for years to come? Bring the whole family and join OPSEU Local 313 on July 21 in Angus, Ontario for a family-friendly rally and free BBQ to celebrate – and save – the Ontario Tree Seed Plant!

Rally: 11:00 a.m. outside the Ontario Tree Seed Plant, Huron Street entrance

BBQ: 12:00 noon across the street at Angus Community Park, 6 Huron Street, Angus, Ontario

What to bring:
Your family and kids, water wear for the splash pad in the park. Optional: Homemade signs that show your LOVE for trees, forests, and the Ontario Tree Seed Plant!

We’ll provide:
Free BBQ lunch (hot dogs, veggie dogs and drinks)

Why are we doing this?
OPSEU Local 313 members work at the Ontario Tree Seed Plant. They extract, test and store billions of tree seeds every year and distribute them to nurseries, forestry companies and individuals across the province and around the world. It’s the only one in Ontario – our forests depend on the Ontario Tree Seed Plant!

But the plant is scheduled to close in September 2018 due to a reckless decision without consultation by the previous government. All four Simcoe-Grey candidates in the recent provincial election supported keeping the tree seed plant open, and MPP Jim Wilson spoke up for the plant in the Legislature.

So there is hope! But time is of the essence; September is less than two months away. Let’s encourage the new government to correct course right away and save the Ontario Tree Seed Plant!

The rally will be held outside the Huron Street entrance of the Ontario Tree Seed Plant. The free BBQ will happen right afterwards at noon, right across the street at the Angus Community Park (6 Huron Street, Angus, Ontario).

See you on July 21!
