Oro-Medonte’s incumbent mayoral candidate Harry Hughes has taken down a website after a resident complained it was in contravention of an election period policy.
Hawkestone resident Paul Sanderson submitted a complaint to the township of Oro-Medonte stating the mayor was using corporate resources such as township photography and contact information on a website for election purposes.
The township’s policy covering use of corporate resources for election purposes states “no candidate shall use any equipment, supplies, services or other resources of the municipality for any election campaign or campaign related activities.”
Another policy on corporate communication during an election year (commencing May 1) states candidates shall not distribute media releases, newsletters or other correspondence materials using township resources.
