Penetanguishene council won’t be adding $300,000 to 2018 budget after all

Penetanguishene councillors have changed their minds.

Council won’t be adding $300,000 to the 2018 budget for legal fees to defend the decision to reject a residential subdivision proposed for woodland between Fox and Church streets.

“I don’t think we need to raise that kind of money (this year). We don’t know where this is going,” said Coun. Dan LaRose. “We don’t know if the developer is going to follow through. We don’t know if this is a bluff.”

Queen’s Court Development Ltd. is appealing council’s decision to refuse the subdivision to the Ontario Municipal Board.
Council passed a motion to set aside the necessary funds for staff to hire a lawyer and get prepared for a hearing, which isn’t expected until late 2019.
