News release from Springwater Township

The Township of Springwater is pleased to announce that it has entered into formal negotiations to purchase approximately 50 acres of land from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) for the establishment of a community hub.

The subject lands are located at 1132 Snow Valley Road, at the corner of Snow Valley Road and Highway 26/Bayfield Street. This parcel of land is also known as the Hasty Tract.

This strategic location, has been identified as a ‘major community focus’ and was chosen to accommodate future and immediate needs as identified in the Recreation and Fire Master Plans. These lands will have the potential to house a variety of municipal and community services.

Immediate plans include the construction of a new fire station, with the potential for an emergency services hub in the future. The area will also feature a new multi-use recreation centre, including an arena, library and meeting/activity space, as well as active and passive recreation opportunities.

Before the Township is able to finalize the purchase with the MNRF, an Environmental Assessment (EA) Process must be completed. The EA will include a traffic management study, stormwater management study, environmental impact study, soil and groundwater investigation, archaeological investigation and consultations with First Nations. It is expected that these studies will be completed throughout the spring and summer months.

“We are very excited to move forward with this project,” says Mayor Bill French. “Once the EA has been completed and the purchase has been finalized, the design and construction of the new fire station will be the first priority. Ensuring our Fire & Emergency Service personnel are well-equipped is vital to ensuring community safety.”

Additional information on this project will be updated on the Township of Springwater website www.springwater.ca as it becomes available.
