Collingwood council wants all of its meetings to be live streamed.

Council passed a motion on Feb. 26, asking for staff to take all necessary steps to allow council and standing committee meetings to be live streamed.

Council meetings held biweekly are aired on the local community TV channel, but standing committee meetings, held at the library, are not.

“This makes our meetings more accessible to the public,” said Deputy Mayor Brian Saunderson. “It makes our governance more accessible. It’s a good time to be pushing forward with this.”

Saunderson called for live streaming of meetings in 2015. At that time, the cost was estimated to be about $10,000.

Coun. Tim Fryer said an important part of this process is sound quality and would like to see all meetings held in the council chambers.
