It’s up to the County of Simcoe to approve a huge development request from Innisfil’s Friday Harbour Resort.

Friday Harbour Resort is requesting an official plan amendment to add 1,000 more residential units to its property.

On Feb. 13, the county will discuss handing power for a mandatory public meeting over to the Town of Innisfil.

Friday Harbour is a $1.5-billion resort featuring an inland marina with 1,000 boat slips, condominiums, a shopping district, golf course and many more amenities.

The massive marina project was first proposed about 18 years ago and it received Ontario Municipal Board approval a decade ago. In 2015, the plan was for the resort to have 400 hotel rooms and 1,600 resort units when fully developed.

    This is insane!!
Hasn’t Friday Harbour already done enough damage to the Lake Simcoe watershed?
How does this fit within the SCOP that was finally approved by the OMB after 2.5 years of hearings? Or Places to Grow? etc. etc.
Simcoe County can’t possibly approve this!!

Frankly, we’re not surprised. What a colossal boondoggle! The development is over-big in the first place, and now the owner(s) want to make it bigger. How do the people who have bought units in the development feel about this? They have been lied to. No intimate little weekend place in the country on the Lake as they had thought. The OMB should have known better in 2015.

1000 more units means more opportunity not for money but for pollutants to enter lake simcoe! They acknowledge our sensitive littoral zones when it comes to normal residential builds and push for the green belt expansion but will not acknowledge that Friday harbour can and is already having an effect on our lake. Some of the issue with our increased amount of phosphorous levels is attributed to construction and the fine particles which entry our lakes containing unnatural amounts of potentially harmful sediments. It was bad enough that we allowed such a large resort to exist on the shores of a lake which is already showing signs of our misuse and the lakes unacknowledged sensitive state. When will we realize that if we do not act now to restore and maintain lakes like simcoe, we will only have ourselves to blame when our tourism and agricultural heritage declines because there is no longer any fresh clean water available to be provided for continual economical growth of shoreline areas like Innisfil has to offer.

Everyone please come to the meeting on April 11 at 7:00, 2101 Innisfil Beach Road to protest this unacceptable expansion! The lake can not take this level of humans activity, more power boats, more pollution, etc
