From Grassy Narrows Support

Today our friends in Grassy Narrows will celebrate 15 years of resistance to industrial logging on their traditional territory, along with some incredible news.

On Wednesday, under intense pressure from Grassy Narrows and their supporters, the Canadian government committed to build a Mercury Home in Grassy Narrows.

Chief Simon Fobister called the commitment a “dream come true.” But it is also bittersweet moment. As Judy Da Silva explains, “I couldn’t help but think of the people that have passed on and suffered and the people that are struggling right now.”

Thank you for supporting Grassy Narrows in their long fight to protect and care for their people.

Just two weeks prior, the government of Ontario introduced legislation to put $85 million into a trust to clean up Grassy Narrows’ English-Wabigoon River (acting on their commitment from June)..

We will continue to stand with Grassy Narrows as they work to hold governments accountable to their promises, fight for their remaining demands, and work to rebuild their health, their culture, and their livelihoods on their own terms.
