The New Growth Plan 2017 came into effect on July 1, 2017. This new legislation appears to focus all new development to settlement areas with current existing services such as water and sewer as well as provide increased protection of our agriculture and natural heritage. This is encouraging news for our County Forest Tracts which are a part of our Natural Heritage.

With the new growth plan now in effect, the County of Simcoe must meet the new requirements. There are many unknowns at this transition time and we can’t help but question how developing infrastructure such as the ERRC in a natural heritage feature will meet with the new criteria requirements set by the Province.

Markham Waste Management Centre Fire
Another fire at a waste management facility – this time in Markham.
The Friends of Simcoe Forests are deeply concerned about the potential for fires in the proposed waste facility (known as the ERRC) Simcoe County plans to put in the middle of one of our County forests.
