Collingwood’s mayor has received a federal appointment.
Sandra Cooper has been appointed to the Great Lakes Water Quality Control Board, a group that reports to the International Joint Commission.
Cooper said she made an application to the board and will not be sitting on the group as mayor of Collingwood.
The water quality board is the principal advisor to the IJC in reviewing and assessing progress in implementation of the bi-national agreement for the Great Lakes.
The board identifies emerging issues and recommends strategies and approaches for preventing and resolving the complex challenges facing the Great Lakes.
Cooper is also the vice chair of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative, a group of mayors which is aimed at protecting the Great Lakes.
