Friday September 29: Accessible trail ribbon cutting at Historic Fort Willow

This event will celebrate the grand opening of a newly expanded accessible trail through Fort Willow, a national and provincial historic site. The trail is one of several enhancements made at the fort with funding from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.

Who:

Representatives from the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority, the Township of Springwater and the community partners, including Mayor Bill French of Springwater and Doug Lougheed, councillor for the Town of Innisfil and chair of the NVCA

There will be a ribbon cutting complete with re-enactors in historic dress.

The opening of the trail coincides with the student day of the annual Festival at Fort Willow. More than 1,000 local students are expected to attend.

The Festival at Fort Willow opens for the public on Saturday, September 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

· About Fort Willow: Established at the half-way point between Kempenfelt Bay and the Nottawasaga River, Fort Willow enabled a continuous trade and transportation route from Lake Ontario through to Georgian Bay. During the War of 1812, the British military used the fort as a strategic supply depot along the Nine Mile Portage route.
