Let’s get the butts off the beach!

From Environmental Defence

Join us on Friday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m. to get the butts off Wasaga Beach! Cigarette butts, that is.

Did you know that cigarette butts are the most littered item on Canadian beaches? Even when beaches are cleaned every day, cigarette butts are too small for standard equipment to pick up. They don’t biodegrade, so they stick around and leach toxic chemicals into the sand and water. That is, until they are picked up and ingested by wildlife — or a curious child.

We’ve teamed up with the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation to create a free toolkit to help communities stamp out cigarette butt litter. And thanks to Ontario Parks, the Environment Network, and Georgian Bay Forever, Wasaga Beach is using this toolkit to become butt free.

Come and learn more about the Butt-free Beach campaign, and help us stamp out cigarette butt litter.

Please remember to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and bring plenty of water and sunscreen.
