County council puts off tying green bin and garbage collection
Simcoe County council today decided against implementing recommendations from its solid waste management department (SWM) that would have made utilizing a green bin for diversion of organics mandatory to be eligible for weekly curbside collection.
Instead, the proposal will be placed on a future “workshop” agenda for further discussion.
As reported here first last week, the SWM was aiming for a May 2017 start date, so that the expected increased diversion rate could be factored into the planning of the organics processing facility in Springwater Township.
Also put over to the workshop were recommendations to limit the number of tagged bags permitted from seven to three; eliminating Victoria Day and Thanksgiving as double-up days, and introducing a standard size garbage container.
