Penetanguishene councillors accuse mayor of ‘misleading’ public
Mayor says council ‘confused’ over nature of motion

Tempers flared at a Penetanguishene council meeting May 11 when members of council accused Mayor Gerry Marshall of “misleading” the public on the Main Street redevelopment.
Coun. Dan LaRose read a letter on behalf of a majority of councillors regarding comments Marshall made after the April 27 committee-of-the-whole meeting.
Marshall wrote in a Facebook post and in his weekly mayor’s message that council defeated a motion to hold more public information sessions on the design.
LaRose called the statement “intentionally misleading.” “To suggest that council simply voted down holding any further public sessions skews the facts,” he said.
LaRose said the motion proposed two weeks ago also urged a reconsideration of the approved Main Street curb alignment drawings.
