An Oro-Medonte facility that stores biosolids from Barrie’s wastewater treatment plant may be affecting groundwater, according to a 2015 performance report.

The Oro Biosolids Storage Facility on Line 7 north of the Lake Simcoe Regional Airport can house up to 61,500 square-metres when land application is not possible, such as during the winter, read the report.

City staff will collect groundwater, surface water and lagoon samples for testing, and the lagoon liner inspection program has been changed to include emptying, cleaning, inspecting and repairing of the liner for all three lagoons.

No problems with groundwater were reported at the Landfill Stormwater Management Facility and the on-site sewage system at the Barrie Sports Complex in Midhurst, the report read.

Meanwhile, the city and wastewater treatment contractor WESSUC Inc. won the 2016 Exemplary Biosolids Management Award in April at a Water Environment Association of Ontario conference.
