TINY TOWNSHIP – One of the most respected opponents of the notorious Site 41 landfill proposal has died.
Keith Edwin Wood was charged with public mischief alongside his wife, Ina, in August 2009. They were among a large group of protesters acting to protect ground water from being contaminated at the Tiny Township site.

The charges were later withdrawn, but not before the case drew headlines across the province. Ultimately, the advocacy of Wood and others was instrumental in convincing Simcoe County officials to abandon the project.

At the time of his arrest, Wood said he felt proud to play a role in “the best cause that they’ve ever done in Simcoe County.”

Wood, who had cancer, died Saturday at his Tiny Township home. He was 88 years old.
