MIDLAND – Midland council has put off until Feb. 1 a decision on hiring a temporary CAO to replace the recently departed Carolyn Tripp.

It was revealed last week that Tripp had left her position as CAO. The reason for her departure has not been revealed publicly.

During a special session before Monday’s council meeting, Mayor Gord McKay said filling the CAO position on a full-time basis would take a minimum of three months, but likely even longer.

Town clerk Andrea Fay is currently serving as interim CAO until the position of the town’s top municipal employee can be filled temporarily.

Councillors praised Fay, but noted both CAO and clerk are full-time positions and having someone do both jobs could be overwhelming.

Tripp came to Midland in March 2013 to replace the retiring Ted Walker, who is currently serving as Penetanguishene’s CAO.
