Thursday October 15: Waste site info session at Elmvale arena

The first of five public informations sessions on Simcoe County’s search for a site for a composting and materials handling facility will be held Tuesday October 6 at the Simcoe County Museum.

All the session will run twice on each day, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm.The format will include a formal presentation taking place at 2:30 and 6:30 pm. followed by Q&A. The county advises that dates and times are subject to change and to check details on simcoe.ca for the most up-to-date information.

-Tuesday, October 6 – Simcoe County Museum, Springwater
-Thursday, October 8 – Township of Oro-Medonte Administration Centre, Oro-Medonte
-Thursday, October 15 – Elmvale Arena – Springwater Room, Springwater
-Tuesday, October 20 – Stayner Arena and Community Centre, Clearview
-Monday, October 26 – Hillsdale Community Centre, Springwater

Seven sites are on the county’s short list. Two would accommodate the composting facility only. They are:
-Site 42 at 1673 Fairgrounds Road North in Clearview a county-owned property that the county describes as “a waste management facility under development. To date, there has been neither waste management operations nor landfilling undertaken at this site.
-The Orr Lake Main Tract, part of the county forest in Springwater at 2249 Flos Road Seven East.

Five of the facilities could accommodate both composting and a waste management centre for transfer operations for garbage and recycling and truck servicing. They are:
-The Millenium/Craighurst county forest tracts at 1473/1273 Old Second South, Springwater.
-The Freele county forest tract at 2967 Horseshoe Valley Road West, Springwater.
-The Sandford county forest tract at Line 5 North, Oro-Medonte
-An unnamed county-owned tract at 1453 Flos Road Three East, Springwater.
-A privately ownd property at 540/528 Penetanguishine Road (junction of County Road 93 and Highway 11) in Springwater.
