MIDLAND – Tears were shed on both sides of a Midland council decision to build a health hub in Edgehill Park.

Deputy Mayor Mike Ross choked back tears as he explained his reasoning for voting in favour of the hub.

“It was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make on council. I have to consider what is going to be best for the people of Midland, what is going to be best for my family and your family,” he said during Monday’s meeting.

… The final vote was 6-3 in favour of a health hub for Chigamik Community Health Centre and Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care. It will be built on 1.1 hectares of the 4.2-hectare park.

Councillors Jonathan Main, Pat File and Jack Contin were the only ones to vote against the proposal.
