Boots and Hearts parking, camping permits on agenda

From SaveOro Inc.

A crucial council meeting is being held on Tuesday, July 28 at 3:00 pm at the Oro-Medonte Community Centre and Arena in Guthrie on the corner of Line 4 and Highway 11.

This could allow Boots and Hearts to operate an illegal parking and camping event along with a large outdoor concert August 6-9.

EAR-SPLITTING, X-RATED WAYHOME CONCERT
COMES UP WAY SHORT FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS

From complaints about excessive noise that carried for miles – Saturday night’s headliner, hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar could be heard right across Lake Simcoe to Big Bay Point south of Barrie – WayHome was a debacle for a growing number of irate residents.

Although declared a rousing success by the promoter – thousands of residents now find themselves suffering from lack of sleep, stress and anger; anger that the event occurred; anger about Councils decision to adjust the allowable Noise levels two days before the event; anger about thundering, foul-mouthed music sets on Saturday; and anger that some Councillors downplayed the impact of the noise.

And now beleaguered residents are bracing for a second onslaught next week as Boots and Hearts – which attracted some 90,000 last year to Clarington – prepares for its load in next Wed. But before that happens, concert promoters must get two needed special events permits.

Township Council will vote on the permits tomorrow (Tuesday) at 3:00 pm; again at the Oro-Medonte Community Centre and Arena at Line 4 and Highway 11 .. and once again it is during daytime working hours!!

Council will vote on a request for one permit for a 92-acre slice of the 560 acre venue and another for the 470-acre parking and camping areas on the remainder of the site. It is doubtful that any municipality would grant a permit, based on the illegality of the past events. However we have a Council trying to keep the lawyers, developers and residents happy..all in that order.

Two weeks ago, council agreed to issue a permit for the 92 acre portion – which houses 80,000 seat and 30,000 seat outdoor amphitheatres, food, alcohol and VIP tents and areas for the musicians and their entourages – but rejected a request to approve camping and parking on the remainder of the property, saying it is illegal and not zoned for those purposes. Despite council’s refusal to hand out the contentious permit, promoter Republic Live went ahead anyway, selling tens of thousands of tickets that included camping and parking on illegal lands.

We are the community of Oro-Medonte, We will stand up for what is right for our township, farmland and environment!
