AWARE Simcoe news release

AWARE Simcoe is seeking a Judicial Review of Simcoe County’s hearing and decision regarding Beeton Woods. County Councillors voted May 12, 2015 to unconditionally lift a stop-work order that had been issued March 3 to Tecumseth Estates. The hearing was held April 14.

Lawyer Michael Fleischmann will be filing the application on behalf of the citizens group.

“Our mandate is clear, AWARE Simcoe is a citizens’ group that works to protect the environment through transparency and accountability in government,” said Chair Don Morgan.

“The Beeton Woods issue speaks to all the reasons our group was formed. That is why, after careful consideration, we have decided to take this action.”

AWARE Simcoe has been closely involved in the issue, with two of its board members – Nicole Cox and Stephanie MacLellan – spearheading a public campaign to raise funds to retain legal and scientific expertise in the effort to protect the 35-acre mature forest. See Save the Beeton Woods at gofundme.com.

A rally to Save the Beeton Woods will be held at 7 pm on Tuesday July 21 in Beeton Park. Further details to be announced.

  1. Margaret Willis says:

REMEMBER SITE 41. Listen to local residents. They value their environment.
Leave clean water clean and , green forests green.
It’s all about saving the environment, one asset at a time: Tiny Township’s water, Beeton’s mature forests………what’s next? Planet Earth will survive only if we stop this destruction of its waters, air, forests, vegetation, animals, insects……all living matter needs protection to keep this planet of ours safe from the destruction being caused by mankind. The damage is at our own peril.
Stop before it is too late.

  2. Laurie Wallace says:

Cutting down mature forests has to stop somewhere. There will be nothing left for our descendants if we don’t act now to stop the destruction of our environment. Tree-hugging is as important as people-hugging, so PLEASE, save our beautiful trees.

  3. Don Molloy says:

We need to find ways to raise more funds to support these actions. The developers have deep pockets and are willing to spend; both in legal actions and to influence political decisions at every level of government.

We need AWARE CANADA to work for accountability in Ottawa and AWARE ONTARIO for QUEENS PARK. If every politician in both places were not re-elected there might be a chance for a better future. Lets work towards that.
