Beeton residents launch crowd-funding campaign
AWARE News Network
A crowd-funding campaign has been launched to save the Beeton Woods. The appeal on the gofundme website states that the funds will be used to retain legal representation to address problems in the permits application and approval process, and to obtain expert assessments of the value and fragility of this woodland.
So far, $1,870 has been raised. More than 2,300 people have signed a petition that was launched in February, after Simcoe County approved a special permit to allow clearing the land. A stop-work order was subsequently issued at the request of the Town of New Tecumseth. After hearing evidence April 14, county councillors reconvened May 12 and voted to lift the stop-work order and re-instate the special permit.
