There is a beautiful park along Bayshore Dr in Midland that overlooks Georgian Bay. The Town of Midland is considering selling a portion of property that adjoins to the park, to Waypoint Center for Mental Health Care for an outpatient building and Chigamik’s main services.

This park means a great deal to my family, not only do my children play there, but our home backs on to this park. We bought our home because of this park and do not believe it is the best location for an outpatient building. We are asking the town to reconsider this location and to keep it a green space for all to enjoy.

It is also the site of James Playfair, one of the town’s founding father’s, home and first site of the Huronia Museum. Playfair was an advocate for park conservation and even saved Little Lake Park from logging companies.Thomas Duncan, longtime chairman of Midland’s park commission, said many years ago: “If it had not been for Mr. James Playfair, Midland would not have that park today, and all through the years he was one of the best friends the [park] commission had.”

The town should be more concerned with keeping these spaces available to the public and instead of covering them over.
