Clearview Township’s Mayor has called an emergency council meeting.

Following Tuesday’s Simcoe County council meeting, Chris Vanderkruys has called a Clearview meeting for Wednesday at 8:30 AM.

This is to discuss the Collingwood Street Bridge.

Simcoe County is offering to hand over the controversial bridge to Clearview Township, but not all the money the township had been hoping for, to fix it up.

The township had asked for possession of the Collingwood Street bridge, along with 1.5 million dollars for its restoration.

County council instead has offered to give the township the bridge plus $934,000.

Clearview has until April 30th to make a decision, or the County will go ahead with the tender, and replace the bridge.

The bridge has been the subject of discussion in Clearview for about four years.
It’s a single-lane steel structure, and it’s in such bad shape, the County has already put to tender the plan to replace it with a two-lane concrete span during this construction year.

Many people in Creemore consider the bridge a historic site and want to restore it rather than replace it.
