Report of Tiny Township Council Meeting Friday February 27, 2015

By Vickie Kee AWARE Tiny

Beamish will not be requesting a second public meeting on their proposed quarry expansion until April or May because some of the key people have been away. They have been in discussion with some of the property owners who spoke at the public meeting and the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change staff to gather information on wells in the area.

The approved minutes of the public meeting state “Mayor Cornell noted that this was a good public meeting to understand the public concerns to this proposal and that a second meeting would be an appropriate next step after Beamish has had an opportunity to address some of the issues.”

Simcoe County update
Deputy-Mayor Walma announced that County Council voted to have a public meeting information session on the Official
Plan. Actually the motion that was passed read “public information meeting

with questions.” This all started because Sandy Agnew, representing AWARE Simcoe, made an outstanding presentatiion to the County of Simcoe regarding the Official Plan and the Ontario Municipal Board. Springwater Mayor Bill French supplied the ‘motion’ . It was quite the discussion for an hour but finally the ‘motion’ was passed. There has not been a public meeting since 2008 and there has been so many changes to the Official Plan since then.

Historic bridge
Tiny Council approved a request to make an oral submission from Mr. Lyn Downer concerning the Heritage Designation of the Concession 2 bridge. It has been discussed by this new council but no decision has been made yet on whether to put money into it or demolish the whole bridge. In my opinion, our heritage is important.

Cycle Simcoe
Brendan Matheson, representing Cycle Simcoe, made a presentation to council asking for $3,000 towards the purchase of signage and maps for this area. He has been hired part-time for “Tourism Simcoe County.”

I would like to put my two cents in about that Beamish plan:
We have been involved with the shoreline in Tiny Conc. 2 all our lives. When I was a child, I remember local friends talking about the wonders of French’s Hill & how our well water down at the shore was so pure thanks to the actions below the surface on the groundwater. Way back then, they explained that all ground water seeks another water source to join. They believed that the ground water after leaving French’s Hill, eventually made its way to Georgian Bay. I am talking about back in the late 1940s when all we had were dug or sandpoint wells. I can’t prove a darned thing, but if these old residents were correct, the effect on our wonderful well water will be horrendous. Since Tiny cannot consider sewers for God knows how many years in the future, what will everyone depending on the water that runs down French’s Hill to the Nippissing Ridge & then down to our communities do? Are our Water Warriors ready to get involved? I am…..let’s stop this madness. We’re destroying everything that we hold precious! Thanks for reading my rant.

Sorry. When I said sewers I meant to include water mains.
