Fraud conviction not a concern for Midland Bay Landing development, says mayor

MIDLAND – The general manager of the company selected to develop Midland Bay Landing was previously convicted of fraud in connection with other waterfront projects.

Ken Michaud of Mountain Ridge Estates, an affiliate of Consar Building Corporation, paid a $20,000 fine and a $2,000 surcharge after being convicted in 2004 with one count of fraud over $5,000, according to Barrie court services.

Nine other charges, including uttering forged documents, theft and laundering money in connection with a case that spanned 1997 to 2001, were withdrawn or discharged.

Midland Mayor Gord McKay addressed the issue in general terms in an email to constituents March 22.
