Hundreds of people gathered in the village of Brougham on Wednesday night to show their support for the Greenbelt. It’s under review this year and also under attack. Most recently, the Globe & Mail published an article What’s so smart about unaffordable housing which dismissed the Greenbelt’s value and falsely stated“There is no scarcity of agricultural land in southern Ontario.”
The farmland within the Greenbelt was vigorously defended at the Town Hall this week. “Economic development doesn’t need Class 1 farmland, but farmers do,” said Land Over Landing’s, Mary Delaney. Another panelist, Faisal Moola of the David Suzuki Foundation told the crowd “We depend on farmland and nature to sustain us, but they’re ignored.”

Congratulations to the organizers of the Greenbelt Town Hall. Food & Water First members were there and said it was fantastic! *
*AWARE Simcoe and Midhurst Ratepayers Association members also attended – see our own David Strachan in the photo
