Milne takes full circle back to mayor’s chair, four new councillors elected

Rick Milne will take the helm of New Tecumseth, elected last night for the second time since 1991, as mayor, holding off local lawyer Kevin Kemp, by a margin of 698 votes.

When the ballots were counted, Mr. Milne emerged with 4,152 or 45.6 per cent to Mr. Kemp’s 3,454 or 37.9 per cent. Bob Marrs finished in third with 1,062 and Damon Corbet garnered 424 votes in his first election campaign.

Total voter turnout was 9,229 our of an eligible list of 23,258, which is 39.68 per cent.

Ward 8 councillor Jim Stone was the only incumbent running for the same position who went down to defeat, losing out to Chris Ross, a first-time candidate who finished with 599 votes or 48.5 per cent of those cast. Bo Neiderhuber, who lives in Adjala-Tosorontio but ran in the Tottenham ward, was second with 366 votes.

Jamie Smith, who moved up from Ward 2, was elected Deputy Mayor in the night’s closest race, defeating Glen O’Leary by 110 votes – 3,783 to 3,673. Peter Barbati received 1,344 votes.

In Ward 1, Marc Biss, who does not live in the ward, won the seat with 361 or 44 per cent, defeating Wayne Noye, Glen Ackerman, and Fabio Lamanna.

Michael Beattie is the new Ward 2 councillor elected with 566 or 46.9 per cent, finishing ahead of Laurie Mortimer, Gord McInnes, and Frank Rogers.

Ward 3 incumbent Paul Whiteside took 50 per cent of the votes to hold off Paul Foster and Cam Simone.

Fran Sainsbury was relected in Ward 4 with 1,313 or 86.4 per cent of the vote over Rob Katzman.

Donna Jebb returns to Ward 5 taking 76.4 per cent of the vote over Frank Forrest. And in Ward 6, incumbent Richard Norcross was returned with 745 or 59.2 per cent over Doug Kowalinski and Terry Garvin.

And Ward 7 also features a new councillor as Shira Harrison McIntyre, wins her second attempt at the seat with 581 or 52.7 per cent of the vote, over Jess Prothero, Guy Bonney, and Glen Wiley.

The new council will be sworn into office at the Inaugural Meeting scheduled for December 1.
