Deputy mayor candidate Ruth Hackney eyes ‘theme destination’ on Midland waterfront

MIDLAND – Ruth Hackney wants to make sure Midland’s $3.4-million purchase of the former Unimin lands is not a wasted opportunity.

It is one of the issues that sparked the former deputy mayor to run again for the seat.

“We need more tourism and things that will bring people (here),” she said, noting 27 per cent of the 16-hectare property is already slated for parkland.
