June 18, 2014 (5:56 p.m.) MEDIA RELEASE – ESSA TOWNSHIP TORNADO DAMAGE RECOVERY – Update No. 1 – EMERGENCY SERVICES ARE WORKING WITH THE MUNICIPALITY AND OTHER EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCIES TO ENSURE PUBLIC SAFETY FOLLOWING YESTERDAY’S TORNADO IN ANGUS. 300 RESIDENTS HAVE BEEN AFFECTED AND 102 HOMES HAVE BEEN DAMAGED TO VARYING DEGREES BY THIS SIGNIFICANT WEATHER EVENT.  THREE PEOPLE ARE BELIEVED TO HAVE SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES.  EFFORTS ARE UNDERWAY TO ENSURE PERSONAL PROPERTY AND RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURES REMAIN SECURE WHILE BUILDING INSPECTORS ASSESS DAMAGE AT EACH LOCATION.  THIS RESTORATION WORK AT EACH RESIDENCE IS UNIQUE, TEDIOUS, DANGEROUS, AND WORST OF ALL, TIME CONSUMING.  INFORMATION UPDATES CAN BE FOUND ON THE ESSA TOWNSHIP WEBSITE AT www.essatownship.on.ca, BY ACCESSING 211 INFORMATION, BY ATTENDING THE DAILY 4:00 p.m. RESIDENT UPDATE MEETINGS WHICH WILL BE HELD AT THE ANGUS RECREATION CENTRE LOCATED AT 8529 COUNTY ROAD 10 IN ANGUS, OR BY CONTACTING THE TOWNSHIP OF ESSA AT 705-424-9770 (extension “0”).

June 18, 2014 (12:29 p.m.) – GARBAGE AND RECYCLING – 10TH LINE ESSA BETWEEN 25TH SIDEROAD AND HIGHWAY 90 & COUNTY ROAD 56 BETWEEN 20TH SIDEROAD AND 25TH SIDEROAD.  RESIDENTS FALLING WITHIN THE ABOVE-LISTED AREAS ARE ADVISED THAT THEY WILL NOT BE RECEIVING GARBAGE/RECYCLING COLLECTION TODAY DUE TO HYDRO AND CLEANUP FROM YESTERDAYS STORM.  THEY WILL BE PERMITTED TWO BAGS FOR PICKUP NEXT WEEK.

June 18, 2014 (12:02 p.m.) – GARBAGE AND RECYCLING – RESIDENTS OF THE STONEMOUNT SUBDIVISION ARE ADVISED THAT THEY WILL NOT BE RECEIVING GARBAGE/RECYCLING COLLECTION TODAY.  THEY WILL BE PERMITTED TWO BAGS FOR PICKUP NEXT WEEK.  SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE. June 18, 2014 (11:25 a.m.) – PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT A MEETING WILL BE HELD AT THE ANGUS ARENA LOCATED AT 8529 COUNTY ROAD 10, ANGUS, AT 2:00 P.M. THIS MEETING IS FOR ALL RESIDENTS THAT HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY YESTERDAY’S STORM.

June 17, 2014 (11:15 p.m.) – PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT ESSA TOWNSHIP HAS DECLARED AN EMERGENCY.  ALL RESIDENTS OF THE TOWNSHIP HAVE BEEN ACCOUNTED FOR AND ONLY MINOR INJURIES HAVE BEEN SUSTAINED.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT RESIDENTS ARE ASKED NOT TO RETURN TO THEIR HOMES.

ALL EMERGENCY RESOURCES HAVE BEEN APPLIED.  RESIDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN DISPLACED ARE ASKED TO GO TO THE ANGUS ARENA AT 8529 COUNTY ROAD 10.
