Orillia environmental consultant Bob Bowles has prepared a new presentation called Life In The Forest Leaf Litter for the Huronia Woodland Owners’ Association White Pine Award meeting at the Elmvale Legion on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. The presentation will peel back the layer of newly fallen leaves and work down through the various layers until we arrive at the rich humus soil of the forest floor. You will learn about the various plants that grow in this habitat and discover the thousands of amazing, microscopic insects that work to produce this special habitat. The presentation will help you understand why the leaf litter layer is so important to the health of the forest and what you can do to promote and protect a healthy forest leaf litter.
Bowles believes that the key to healthy forests is education and understanding how important these habitats are to the environment. He feels everyone whether novice or an expert forester will enjoy this presentation.
The public is invited to attend and learn more about forests and the flora and fauna that call them home. You do not need to be a landowner to enjoy this presentation and join this group just someone who wants to enjoy, understand and protect forests. Memberships for the 2014 year are now available at the low price of only $20 a year. For more information on the presentation or to join the group contact Bowles at rbowles@rogers.com.
